Water Damage Restorations

Water damage inside a home or business can occur from any type of water source (plumbing or nature) and is almost always accidental, random, or unexpected. The appropriate treatment depends on the nature of the damage. Some water carries contaminates and should be considered hazardous (e.g. sewage). Whatever the origin, the prospects of restoration depend largely on the speed with which your building and personal property can be dried. Even clean water can generate mildew and other bacterial growth if neglected.

Time is crucial when dealing with wet carpets, flooded basements, wood floors (or any other type of flooring), wet drywall, ceilings, contents, important documents, and any other items of importance damaged by water. These items must be dealt with as soon as possible, as time becomes the enemy when left unattended. Water extraction, or removing the excess water, is generally the first step when repairing water damage. Water extraction is typically followed by structural drying and/or drying contents and any other materials that were affected by the water.

Follow the below points to minimize further water damage loss:

• Remove as much water as possible by mopping or put as many towels as you can to soak up the water from the affected areas.
• Lift the curtains off the floor
• Turn on the air conditioning if possible, or turn on the fans. This will reduce the humidity in the air and help dry the water damage, do not turn them on if electricity becomes hazardous.
• Move rugs away from the water damaged areas to prevent staining or colour bleeding
• Do not try to remove water using an ordinary household vacuum cleaner
• Put aluminium foil or plastic sheeting’s under furniture to prevent non-reversible staining to the carpet or floor coverings.
• Do not lift carpet from the edges
• Do not use electrical appliances

Once the water extraction phase has been completed and as much water as possible has been extracted from the affected areas, the next step is to implement the drying process.
